West Salem Business Association
November 8, 2017
Meeting called to order at 12:00 p.m. by President Callie Stanhope. After introductions and buffet lunch, the regular meeting commenced.
Dave Hundt and Tim Groth spoke with the membership concerning the lack of parking in the downtown area. Mr. Hundt explained the former Contractor Supply property is presently used for parking. If this property is sold, the public may not have access to this area for parking. It is also important for Village Park activities and for the annual June Dairy Days celebration. Mr. Hundt talked with the Village Board to support and encourage the Village to purchase the former Contractor Supply property for downtown parking. Mr. Hundt is requesting the West Salem Business Association endorse this request for the Village to buy the property.
Motion by Denise Jones, seconded by Nicole Vidal directing the Business Association Board of Directors to write a letter to the Village Board of Trustees in support of the Village purchasing the former Contractor Supply property. Motion unanimously approved.
Guest Speaker Nick Ragner, Development Director for The Salvation Army then updated the membership on the agency’s activities and requests for bell ringers in West Salem.
Motion by Denise Jones, seconded by Laurie Noelke to approve the minutes of the October 11, 2017, regular meeting. Motion unanimously approved.
Treasurer Patty Gjertsen’s Association bank balance report was distributed. The Association bank balance is $7,561.57. The downtown flowerpot account balance is $66.04. Winter Wunderland donations are now being remitted putting that account balance at $1,599.69. The Celebrate West Salem account balance is $1,905.74.
Motion by Rick Wilson, seconded by Tim Groth to approve the treasurer’s report as presented. Motion approved.
The banquet is scheduled for Saturday, February 3, 2018. Nominations for Citizen of the Year and Business of the Year can be submitted to any Business Association Board of Director. The banquet will be held at Westview Inn, downtown West Salem.
Downtown Trick or Treating Update
The October 31 downtown trick or treating event was well attended. Suggestions have been made to open up Leonard Street at 5:30 p.m. instead of 6:00 p.m. The membership agreed with this recommendation.
The WSBA Board reported the membership routinely donates $500 to the downtown hanging flowerpot program, and the Board recommends $500 be transferred into the flowerpot account for next year’s flowers.
