West Salem Business Association
October 11, 2017
Meeting called to order at 12:00 p.m. by President Callie Stanhope. After introductions and buffet lunch, the regular meeting commenced. Guest Speaker Police Chief Charles Ashbeck updated the membership on police department activities and information pertaining to the business community.
Motion by Nicole Vidal, seconded by Brenda Osterlie to approve the minutes of the September 13, 2017, regular meeting. Motion unanimously approved.
Treasurer Patty Gjertsen’s Association bank balance report was distributed. The Association bank balance is $7,434.37. High School scholarships have not been distributed, and several other annual donations have not been made to date. The downtown flowerpot account balance is $66.04. Winter Wunderland donations are now being remitted putting that account balance at $1,599.69.
Motion by Rick Wilson, seconded by Denise Jones to approve the treasurer’s report as presented. Motion approved.
After all expenses, the bank balance is now $66.04. If this project is to continue, outside funding will be needed. If businesses or individuals are interested in continuing this activity, the Association will need committed funding by March 1.
The banquet is scheduled for Saturday, February 3, 2018. Nominations for Citizen of the Year and Business of the Year can be submitted to any Business Association Board of Director. The banquet will be held at Westview Inn, downtown West Salem.
Union State Bank is collecting coats for kids through November 10, 2017. Noelke Music will be closing its Hamilton Street business on October 26, and Home Couture will be moving into that location. Salem Terrace and Mill Street Manor are hosting a Family Fiesta, and all are welcome. Downtown Trick or Treating is scheduled for October 31 from 3:00 to 5:00, and Trunk or Treat will be held in the Village Park from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. The 1st Responders annual chili supper fundraiser is set for Thursday, November 9, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the West Salem High School.
Spotlight of the Month
1st Community Credit Union was chosen as the November Spotlight Business.
Motion by Denise Jones, seconded by Nicole Vidal to adjourn the meeting at 12:51 p.m.
